Green Strategies for Photo and Video Productions

While an unavoidable amount of waste is the reality of this industry, our company is committed to empowering photographers by offering insights into a few easy ways to make productions more sustainable.

Photography is imperative in the realm of product promotion. Trust us. As a photography rental business run by a Photographer and a Food Stylist, we know convincing potential buyers of your product's appeal even before they make a purchase is a must, but so is making sure our crews adopt eco-friendlier habits.

We love all the creative projects we host at our space and are proud to be a place dedicated to nurturing creativity, but as a studio, we also realize the importance of leading by example and making efforts towards growing our green habits.

Sustainability is a journey, and we are still learning as we go, but here are some of the things we do and empower you to do to help minimize waste in your next production:

1. Embrace Natural Lighting: Positioning sets near windows when feasible minimize energy consumption. With multiple skylights and huge industrial windows, our studio spaces' structure maximizes the natural light.

2. Digitize Workflows: While we accommodate the occasional need for hard copies on set, we appreciate when people strive for digital efficiency whenever possible. Embracing electronic contracts, invoices, and call sheets minimizes paper waste.

3. Utilize Reusable Props and Set Materials: HHS is conveniently located above The Surface Library, a treasure trove of tabletop props and surfaces. You are welcome to check out the available inventory and get whatever you need for your next shoot at a discounted rate.

4. Compost your food: We'd love to make sure your production food scraps don't end up in a landfill, so ensuring it all goes to the right bin is crucial. Setting up designated recycling and composting stations to ensure proper disposal of materials on set is something we are proud of.

5. Donate Leftovers: Consider donating leftovers to organizations like the Hollywood Food Coalition. HOFOCO aids in feeding the food-insecure while reducing food waste by serving 80,000 meals yearly. Helping the local people in need will never feel easier. The donation drop-off is only 1.5 miles away.

By integrating these strategies into your photo/video productions, you not only reduce waste but also contribute to a greener future for the creative industry. As a Studio, HHS knows this industry has a long way to go, but we believe cultivating better habits can make a big change.
